A FOUNDATION To Help Our Poor

RENO has been taking part in the efforts of Filipinos in the US to reach out to our unfortunate kababayans back home. A few years back, we hosted a fund-raising event for the then President Joseph Estrada's Erap Para Sa Mahirap Foundation.
Fil-Ams from all over Nevada and Northern California joined hands in that event.

Today we continue our goal to help. In this column, we introduce to you a Reno-based foundation.

The FILIPINO-AMERICAN FOUNDATION, Inc. (FILAM) is a non-stock and non-profit corporation registered with the Nevada Secretary of State in 1998.
(Registration #: 19599-1999, IRS #: 01-0750022)

OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION :

The primary objectives of the foundation are to initiate, provide and establish education, research and other forms of assistance programs and services to the poor but deserving citizens of the Philippines & USA; and to foster mutual assistance programs and self-reliance by promoting livelihood and self-help programs.

PROGRAMS OF THE FOUNDATION :

Establish scholarship program for the benefit of the poor and underprivileged but deserving students all over the country.

Engender mutual assistance and self-help programs, as well as other forms of assistance, financial or otherwise to needy people.

Initiate and/or cooperate with private, government and other institutions for the purpose of achieving its objectives; and

Establish a general fund from where resources could be drawn for the financing of its programs and projects.

PROCEDURE IN THE GRANT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP :

A Scholarship Awards Committee composed of Professionals, mostly from Reno University and Fil-Am community leaders, is tasked to screen all applicants and determine who are deserving for the FILAM Scholarship.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.

To further achieve the objectives of the Foundation, there is a great need for funds not only to sustain and maintain the Foundation's programs, office and staffs but also the many segment of the community who deserve assistance. For this reason, the Foundation addresses its appeal to you for your much needed help and contribution. Supporting the organization, you will be a part of the success in elevating the forsaken condition of our poor countrymen. If we, the Filipinos in the United States, would become united to help the poor people in our native land -- a token amount from each and everyone of us will go a long way. Let's give them a chance in life, too. If one dollar can make a difference in improving our countrymen's lot -- spiritually, mentally, and physically -- then than dollar is worth spending.

"For I was hungry and you gave me bread, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you took me in. I was naked and you clothe me. I was sick and you visited me. I was imprisoned and you came unto me -- therefore I say unto you, in as much as you have done it unto one of the least of my brethren, you have done it unto me."
