A lot of our Kababayans are asking information about MARRIAGE and DIVORCE here in RENO.

Here are the following marriage information :

A male or female person, at least 18 years of age, not nearer of kin than second cousins or cousins of the half blood, not having a husband or wife living, may be joined in marriage. Proof of age may be required. Both parties may be required to appear in person at the Marriage License Bureau, Washoe County Courthouse, 75 Court Street, Reno, Nevada.

BLOOD TESTS / WAITING PERIODS. Blood tests are not required, and there is no waiting period.

HOURS AND FEES. Monday through Sunday, 8 AM to 12 Midnight. FEES include Minister Fees, Court Fees, Chapel (MANILA WEDDING CHAPEL), and Room (2 beds) at SWAN INN.

PARENTAL / GUARDIAN CONSENT. Persons at least 16 years of age but less than 18 years of age may marry only if he/she has the consent of :

(a) Either parent; or (b) Such person's legal guardian. (NRS 122.010).

Persons signing as guardians must finish a CERTIFIED COURT ORDER showing proof of legal Guardianship to the satisfaction of the Clerk. If the parent(s) / legal guardian cannot be present, a statement of consent, written in English, stating the name, birth date and age of the minor child, the relationship of the person giving consent, and consenting to the marriage to a specific individual. Said statement must be signed before a notary public and the notary must state that the parent(s) / legal guardian personally appeared before them. If the statement is signed by a legal guardian, a copy of the court order is required as set forth above.

Under the provision of NRS 122.015, a person less than 16 years of age may marry if either parent or legal guardian files an action, pays all court fees as provided by law, and presents a court order from the Second Judicial District Court, County of Washoe, State of Nevada, authorizing the Clerk to issue a license.

In order to obtain a Marriage License and have a legal marriage, divorces must be final in the state where granted. The date of the final decree and the city and state where granted are required prior to issuance of the license.

To be legally married, a marriage ceremony must be performed by a person authorized to perform marriages in the State of Nevada. The options are : wedding chapels, churches or the Commissioner of Civil Marriages. One witness to the marriage ceremony is required by law.

Copies of the marriage application may be obtained from the Washoe County Clerk, P.O. Box 30083, Reno, NV 89520-3083. Copies are free. Certified copies have a fee. Please include the date of marriage and names of bride and groom with your request. For a fee, a certified copy of your marriage certificate (proof of marriage) may be obtained from the Washoe County Recorder, P.O. Box 11130, Reno, NV 89520-0027.
